BAGeL Radio is a San Francisco-born, commercial-free internet station founded in February 2003 by music director Ted Leibowitz. Born from a Bay Area Gig eList email newsletter, it has grown into an award-winning destination for indie rock, noise pop, shoegaze, and psych garage — curated by hand from roughly 800 song submissions each week. Leibowitz personally programs every track, favoring a pre-Nirvana alternative ethos and indie acts over mainstream rock. The station was the first internet radio to win a College Music Journal (CMJ) Specialty Music Director of the Year award — twice. Now broadcasting via SomaFM, it reaches around 40,000 monthly listeners in 150 countries, with live hosted shows including the eight-hour Friday marathon "480 Minutes" and Tuesday psychedelic specialty show "Fuzzy Road."
